Due to extreme pressures and temperature variations during the formation of mountain ranges, the grains of silica underwent through great modifications. This millenary process of recrystallization of the quartz sandstone gave origin to rock formations, where the grains of quartz where firmly united with each other.

These metamorphic rocks are, essentially, formed by quartz (more than eighty per cent) and can be found in massive or foliated blocks.

In its natural condition, these quartzite presents colors that oscillate by several tonalities. They are often found with a light tone coloring. But the presence of other chemical elements or natural substances in the structure of the quartzite stone can convey a grayish, red, silvery or greenish coloring to it.

Best quality quartzite stones are located in the deepest layers of the deposits, where it suffered the most pressure. In these layers, the quartzite stones are more resistant, presenting a very high degree of hardness and a very low level of moisture absorption.

In A.Pelucio quarries, only the quartzite from the very deepest layers are extracted and used, making these stones ideal for internal and external flooring and wall covering.
